Pre-Race - Pinetown Street Race

As far as local motorsport events go, they don't get much bigger and better than next month's Pinetown street race - the red carpet event of the Mr Price National Supermoto Series.

With spectators reaching the thousands, this solitary street race of the series is where the action takes to the main roads as the championship reaches its business end and competitors' dreams are either indulged or dashed.

Come race day on September 5, all eyes will be on current S1 class leader, Brian Capper (Full Throttle Red Bull KTM), who will be looking to maintain his recent run of fine form as he continues his quest for an eighth supermoto title.

The defending champs said he was really looking forward to making the journey down from North Riding, Gauteng to an event which he calls "a home away from home".

"I'm really excited for Pinetown. After a clean sweep there last year and coming off a good win in East London, I feel I'm coming in with awesome momentum. With a 55 point lead in the championship, I'm feeling confident. I love racing in Natal, so I'm looking forward to putting on a good show for all my fans."

Last year, thousands of spectators lined the streets to watch Capper's virtually perfect performance as he led each and every race from start to finish to ultimately establish an unassailable lead in the championship standings.

Over four rounds this season, Capper has once again established an impressive lead in the S1 class, but certainly hasn't had it all his own way.

Chris Craft Panelbeater's Riaan Neveling (Centurion, Gauteng) and First Freight Perry Yamaha Monster Motors' Jason Munroe (Durban) have both secured impressive victories, while Team Red Yamaha's Brett Bircher (Hillcrest) has been as consistent and competitive as ever.

Bircher, the '07 National Champion, has been a regular podium-finisher this season without clinching top spot as yet, but with home support behind him he will not just be looking to consolidate his position in second on the standings, but also hoping to make up some ground on Capper.

Time is ticking for South Africa’s leading supermoto riders as the countdown continues towards the ever-popular Pinetown street circuit, which brings a number of different elements into play and provides an open and equal playing field for all competitors.

All in all, it is an event not to be missed.

What are the exhibitions all about?

The show is a 25 minute action-packed display of skill, using a custom-built portable rig.
The setup is up and running within 15 minutes of arriving at a venue, and a full PA system with background music, compare and cordless mic gets the crowd going within minutes! Volunteers try their hand at balancing the 65kg Trials bike and the very brave lie down and let Brian ride over, across and around them, displaying his fine balance and skill, and all the while, over, across and around them, displaying his fine balance and skill, and all the while, will even jump right over up to 10 or 12 people! Other unbelievable feats include jumping up onto 2m high steel boxes and 2.5m high tables, bridging 1m gaps with no margin for error, and 3m tall vertical walls!

Brian started riding Footup Trials at 11 years of age. After competing for 7 years, he won his 1st S.A. Title in 1997. In 1998, he left to campaign the U.S.A. AMA National Trials Championships, finishing 7th overall. He then went on to attain 4th place in a World Round Event in Sacramento, California.

Brian then started the first Foot-up Trials show in the country, designed and brought back from America, Xtreme Riding Xhibitions. He has taken his show all over the U.S.A, Australia and South Africa. His world-class show has been performed at the Nassau Collisium in New York in front of
35 000 spectators, and i 2000, He was invited to Australia to perform this show in an International Monster Truck Show's nation-wide tour, which was ve successful. The show was a Big contribution to the Ian Soanes Motor Stunt Show, otherwise known as BIGFOOT, and toured S.A and Australia together for two years.

Brian now performs his crowd-pleasing shows all over South Africa for all types of shows and to all crowd sizes. From public exhibitions to corporate and private functions, the action packed show entertains and stuns people of all ages.
